Values and Principles

Our Core Beliefs

everyone has a gift
everyone belongs – no exceptions.

Our task is to discover and nurture these gifts so all people can live full lives in our families, schools, and communities as contributing citizens.

Building a culture of caring where we support each other is a long-term commitment.  It will take time.  We live in chaotic times so creating and nurturing circles of friends – to care for each other – is simultaneously building the future we want and building safety in challenging times.

Although our work has been focused on people who have experienced exclusion and disability, these principles are about all of us – any age, all spectrums of diversity.  We need each other – and our security for the future depends on the creativity that blossoms from that diversity.  So we will need time, flexibility to be creative, and resilience because there are no quick fixes for complex issues.  And we must master listening to each other with curiosity and respect.  If we do these small things everyday life-long, we will build the new world we desire.  It is possible.  It will be hard work.

Person Centered Planning approaches and ways of working will create inclusion by utilizing conversations to generate images of desirable personal futures that activate and guide meaningful change in a social network.
