Discovering Person-Centered Approaches

A unique learning experience that dives into person-centered thinking and planning. This module brings together insights from some of the most forward-thinking professionals in the field, including Beth Mount, Patty Scott, Simon Duffy, and me, Jack Pearpoint. Through a series of short, inspiring videos, we explore how person-centered planning is about more than just setting goals—it’s about understanding what truly matters to each individual. This is an introduction to a series by Open Future Learning.

You’ll hear stories and ideas that challenge the usual ways of thinking. For example, when someone says, “I want to fly to the moon,” it’s not about the literal goal but about recognizing their spirit of adventure and dreams. This approach helps us focus on direction and aspirations, not just achievements.

Person-centered planning isn’t only for those who can speak for themselves. It’s powerful for everyone, especially those who need us to listen with a different ear. We also talk about building your own “circle” — the team of people you want around you, not just who others think should be there.
