Born in the Bronx, New York, for the past forty years Susan Earl has lived in Thunderbolt, Georgia, a former fishing and shrimping community on the Wilmington River, fifteen minutes from downtown Savannah.  While visiting Georgia as a photographer-in-residence on Ossabaw, a magical, unspoiled barrier island off Savannah’s coast, she promptly fell in love and moved south.

She has taught photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design, worked at the historic Georgia Infirmary, and volunteered as a Writing Fellow for Deep Center, a local, award-winning, non-profit that promotes literacy.  Earl is the co-author, with Tom Kohler, of the non-fiction book, Waddie Welcome & the Beloved Community.
